The Liger is a hybrid cross between a male lion and a female tiger (not to be confused with a Tigon). It often has a mane like a lion, and stripes and spots. The spots are inherited from its lion father, even though adult lions are not visibly spotted. Ligers make the sound of both a lion and a tiger, although their roar tends to sound more like a lion’s.
I had a chance to see a Liger up close at Shambala animal preserve in Acton, CA.. which is owned and operated by actress Tippi Hedren of Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds" and "Marnie" fame. Beautiful, beautiful animal. If you ever get to California, I would highly recommend a visit to Shambala.
